I've received an email as a LPI Certification Alumni member inviting me to the free LPI level 3 beta exams running at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in London. The email is included later. I'd already included details of the exam after being contacted directly by LPI with the details, which are at: PenguinTutor Entry on the LPI Level 3 exam at LinuxWorld Expo, London, UK.
I was thinking about taking the exam when I first heard of it, but I'm not sure I'm going to get the opportunity now. I'm still working towards completing my Level 2 certification and I'm hoping to take the last level 2 exam in the next couple of weeks.
The LPI level 3 exam includes a lot of LDAP and Samba which I've hardly touched in my current experience, as well as some troubleshooting things which I may be a bit better at. My full time job is going to involve a change in direction, so I am going to stop at Level 2. I'm still a big Linux fan though, so I'll still keep going on the PenguinTutor web site which is created in my spare time. Hopefully providing more tutorials for those working towards level 1 and 2 certifications. I'm not sure whether I'm going to LinuxWorld Expo yet or not, it's come at a fairly inconvenient time.
Details of the exam are provided below. Although this was sent to the LPI Alumni list I believe the exams are open to all (although if oversubscribed preference may go to those with LPI certifications already).

Background
During a period of consultation with some of LPI's partners, community
members and Advisory Committees it became evident that two technology
areas have a strong need for skills verification. These are the areas
of authentication and file sharing services. More specifically:
* LDAP, PAM and related technologies
https://group.lpi.org/cgi-bin/publicwiki/view/Examdev/LPIC-3LDAP
* Samba, NFS and related technologies
https://group.lpi.org/cgi-bin/publicwiki/view/Examdev/LPIC-3Samba
* Capacity Planning
https://group.lpi.org/cgi-bin/publicwiki/view/Examdev/LPIC-3CP
* Trouble Shooting
* Core Network Services
The main technology focus of the first LPIC-3 exams will be LDAP and
Samba services. However, related and/or competing technologies will be
examined.
Details of Examlab: LPIC 3
* The first exam (301) will cover authentication and naming,
including: troubleshooting, integration with core network services,
and capacity planning.
* The second exam (302) will cover network file/print services,
including: troubleshooting, and integration with core network
services.
* The exams will run longer than usual exams because there will be
many more items. Please note that the exams (301 and 302) will be
3 hours each, for a total of 6 hours if you choose to write both.
* A particular event will not occur if there are not enough
qualified candidates to warrant the exam lab.
* More events will be added as LPI affiliates confirm that they can
hold an event locally.
* Seating is limited to 200 candidates per exam across all of the
events.
* If there is too much demand, we will seat LPIC-2 holders
preferentially.
Please bring your photo-ID and your LPI ID to the event.
LPI will be located at the OpenForum Europe booth at Stand A24.
Thanks.
